Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday made light of the allegation made by senior party leader V. Hanumantha Rao that he offered ‘kanduva’ to a history-sheeter and welcomed him into the party. “A large number of people come to me and I offer them ‘kanduvas’. How do I know whether somebody is a rowdy-sheeter or not? If there is anything serious, the party will take a decision,” he remarked. Addressing a press conference at the residence of former Minister Vasantha Nageswara Rao, Dr. Reddy reacted in a similar fashion to the allegation made by former Minister Maganti Venkateswara Rao (Babu), who defected to the TDP, that he had been sidelined because of his inability to offer ‘suitcases’.
“It will not be the right to react to the criticism made by a person who left the party,” he said. Dr. Reddy dismissed the talk of possibility of formation of a hung Assembly, reiterating that the Congress would win at least 230 seats, of which 80 would be in Telangana. On TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s criticism of the Congress manifesto, that it had nothing new to offer to people, Dr. Reddy said there was no need to react to the criticism made by those who lacked credibility. Nothing could be more advantageous than having a Leader of the Opposition like Chandrababu Naidu, he remarked in a sarcastic tone.
Dr. Reddy held the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) solely responsible for the delay in completion of Pulichintala project, saying the project would have been completed more than a year ago had the TRS not gone to court and secured a stay on its construction. “If there is anybody who is responsible for non-completion of Pulichintala project, it is the TRS alone. And, see where the TRS is now,” he remarked, alluding to the Grand Alliance.
