Setting at rest speculations that Telugu Desam Party (TDP) may change its stand on the Telangana issue, following its poll debacle, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu today made it clear that the party was committed to statehood.
Launching the annual party conclave ’’Mahanadu’’ here, he said, ’’We are for Telangana state as promised in our election manifesto.’’ ’’There is no change in the party’s stand on the Telangana issue,’’ he said, adding a party should have ’’credibility’’.
Soon after the poll results, a section of party leaders felt that the party’s support for bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh was responsible for the party’s defeat in the other regions of the state.
Another section of party leaders said there was no need for the party to change, at this juncture, its stand on the issue taken after elaborate discussions at various levels in the party.
